As usual, our first concert of the year held held in the delightful St. Martin's Church, Womersley. This has become regular event for us over many years now, which is very much enjoyed by the Band. We are always made very welcome here and Judith is always very kind in her introductions.
The concert went very well and following several weeks of dedicated rehearsals, several players had their opportunity to perform their first solo in front of a live audience. congratulations to them for a wonderful performance each. Plus the main band also performed to the highest standards, including several new pieces specially prepared for this concert. We are certainly ready for 2014.
One of our members, Matthew Higgings, is also a member of the 1st Ackworth Boys' Brigade and they are arranging an "Into Africa 2014" trip in October 2014. The band are helping with their fund-raising activities by performing a concert on Saturday 29th March.
This is a wonderful opportunity for the boys who will be performing various voluntary activities whilst down there, so why not show your support and come along to enjoy this concert.
The band performed in the Brown Cow, Ackworth as part of the Ackworth Heritage Group Gala.
The band performed in Darrington at the Darrington Feast & Fayre.
The weather was very kind to us this year and the sunshine helped bring out the people because the hall filled up rapidly as soon as the doors were open and by the time the concert got underway it was a delight to see most of the seat were occupied.
Entitled "A Countdown To Christmas", there were several brand new pieces in the first half to get the festive spirits going. The interval had the usual assortment of drinks and festive refreshments available, and the second half of the concert brought out the regular supply of wonderful festive music. What KCB concert would be complete without a lovely solo from Jennifer Turner, plus we were treated to a wonderful duet from our two Euphonium players Matthew Armitage and Michael Dean. But the biggest cheer was given to our youngest player in the band Richard Jones after his fantastic trombone solo of "King of the Swingers" from "The Jungle Book". And to put icing onto the cake, he stood centre stage and hardly even referred to his music!
