Knottingley Concert Brass is a group of energetic and dedicated brass band players, whose main objective is to bring great brass band music to the general public, both locally and further afield. Our non-competing status allows us to be really flexible in our concerts as we play music appropriate to our audiences, because we are not constrained to the music imposed upon us by competition judges. So it is far from all the traditional marching band music so associated with brass bands. We are able to adapt our band's structure to meet the requirements of concerts where we perform, because we don't have to meet the stringent competition brass band structures. Other bands in recent years have had to fold, as they were no longer to maintain the strict brass band structure, as their members have left and not been replaced. But Knottingley Concert Brass has continued to thrive where other bands have failed, because we are able to adapt our structure to accommodate the players we have available at any given time.

2016 is our 40th Anniversary

Established in 1976, 2016 marks the 40th anniversary of the band.

To mark this special achievement in the Band's history, we are performing an Anniversary Concert on Saturday 23rd July 2016, in the recently refurbished Carlton High School hall. We are inviting past KCB members to join the current band on stage for a few of the pieces as a special treat. If you are a past member, please get in touch via this dedicated 40 Anniversary link: and we will send you details of the plans for the day (rehearsal during the day, with refreshments, then concert in the evening).

This is already proving to be a very popular concert with booking requests already coming in, so keep an eye on our Future Concert page for details of how to get your tickets when they go on sale. This is certainly one concert you won't want to miss.

The musical talents of the band are wide, and go far beyond a simple brass band. In 2003, four members of the main band formed an extremely professional and talented Jazz Quintet, called Noteability who were extremely popular. They have since gone on to form a separate professional group called The Mighty Allsorts, who are now quite independent of KCB. The original four Noteability members continue to form the heart of the new band and you can find out more about this fantastic group from their own web site. Several members of the band also perform as the Knottingley Concert Bratwursts, a hilarious German style Oompah band, loved by many of our regular followers. The KC Bratwursts also perform concerts in there own right, occasionally including the Beal Fest, held in the lovely village of Beal, just outside Knottingley. Due to other commitments the KC Bratwursts have not performed for a few years now, but it still goes to show the musical diversity in the band.

As well as performing concerts, Knottingley Concert Brass also provides brass instrument tuition to players of all abilities from absolute beginner through to experience players, at our Saturday morning education sessions, in Pontefract. There is plenty more information of this topic on our Learn To Play page, including information on how to join.

Knottingley Concert Brass can always be seen at our two main concerts each year, the Patrons' Concert during the summer, and the Christmas Concert held during December. The band also performs at many other concerts and events, both large and small within the local area and beyond, throughout the rest of the year. We very much like to support local groups and charities with our concerts. See our Future Events page for details of forthcoming events.

The band also has many followers and supporters who have joined our exciting Patrons' Scheme. The Patrons' Scheme benefits them with discounts on KCB purchases, and gives them special privileges, such as VIP invitations to the annual Patrons' Concert and opportunities to join KCB at special events both social and musical. If you are interested, there is plenty more information on our Patrons' Scheme page.
